Gulf Capital Sponsors the Education of 100 Underprivileged Children and Orphans
Gulf Capital, a leading regional alternative investment corporation has today announced that it will sponsor the education of 100 underprivileged Palestinian and Lebanese children at the kindergartens of the Association for the Development of Palestinian Camps (Inaash), a Lebanese cultural and social non-profit and non-governmental association which was launched in the late 1960s.
The sponsorship of the children who are between the ages of 5 and 7 is for the academic year 2011-2012, which starts in September. It comes as part of Gulf Capital’s Social Responsibility Program which aims to help make a difference in the lives of people in the Arab region through initiatives in education, healthcare, water and food.
An agreement was signed between Gulf Capital and Inaash at a special ceremony yesterday, which marked the start of the second week of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the month of giving in the Arab and Muslim worlds. The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Jacqueline Khayat Inglessis, President of Association and Mrs. Leila Ghareeb, Vice President.
Dr. Karim El Solh, Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Capital, said at the event: “As a corporate citizen, Gulf Capital has a responsibility to re-invest in the communities in which it operates in. Our investments currently span the spheres of education, healthcare, food and water amongst other sectors.
The provision of basic education, adequate healthcare and access to clean water are considered basic human rights for every individual on this planet according to the United Nations Universal Declaration. Gulf Capital, as part of its corporate social responsibility program, is keen to contribute to those in need in these specific sectors where it operates. Even small contributions go a long way to change the lives of underprivileged children and orphans to the better, and we would like to play an active role in this. Educating the youth of this region is the best investment we can make for the future.”
Mrs. Inglessis, President at Inaash added: “We are delighted that private corporations like Gulf Capital are coming forward to work hand-in-hand with non-profit, non-governmental organizations in order to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged. The more cooperation between these two sectors, the better it will be for the community at large over the long-term.” The scholarship candidates will be identified by Inaash on merit and need basis.
Mrs. Ghareeb added, Vice President at Inaash: “This agreement will go a long way to improving the lives of these children and giving them the necessary education to grow and prosper in our society. We are looking forward to seeing more corporations act in a true spirit of citizenship and offer opportunities to more underprivileged children.”
